 Research Overview

My research program focuses on clinical translational obstetrical-fetal pharmacology by integrating clinical research and basic biomolecular science.  The area of clinical research interest is in infectious diseases, specifically HIV/AIDS pharmacology.  Recently, I have established collaboration with OSU investigators to characterize the PK of a novel curcumin formulation in healthy volunteers.

Brief Statement of Experience

Over the past twenty years, my clinical practice and research have focused on Infectious Diseases, specifically in HIV/AIDS.  During my tenure at the Ohio State University (OSU), I was instrumental in developing a multidisciplinary HIV Pregnancy Program (HPP) in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Infectious Diseases, and Family AIDS Clinic and Educational Services (FACES) at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH).  The HPP clinic, implemented in July 2001, provides the critical infrastructure resources to address the complex needs of pregnant HIV-infected women.  A similar high-risk pregnancy clinic has also been implemented at ECMC since 1999.  An outcomes database has been established and the primary goal of the outcomes database is to improve the quality of care and life of HIV-infected women, infants, and children.  The database is updated and reviewed regularly for maternal, pregnancy, and newborn outcomes by means of quality assurance review, scholarly publication, and research hypotheses generation and framework development.
