Pharmaceutical Sciences: Academic Programs

At UB, cutting-edge research is being carried on many fronts, in drug delivery, protein formulation, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenomics. These research studies are aimed at improving therapy for many diseases, such as cancer, transplantation rejection, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Our students are exposed to contemporary research techniques and practices. Graduates are highly recruited by national laboratories, in academia, industry and government. Our department's long standing tradition of excellence in education and research continues to receive nationally and internationally acclaim and recognition.

The Department offers a range of academic programs: (please refer to each link for additional details)

  • BS:   This program provides basic training in the pharmaceutical sciences, and can be normally completed within a 4-year university curriculum.

  • Combined BS/MS:  This accelerated program allows qualified students already enrolled for the BS degree in our program to complete a combined degree within a 5-year university curriculum.

  • MS:  This post-graduate program normally involves two years of additional training beyond the BS degree, including more intensive research training. The department also offers a unique MS program with a Pharmacometrics Focus which can be completed within one year, for students with appropriate qualifications.

  • PhD:  This program provides extensive and cutting-edge research training in the pharmaceutical sciences. Graduates of this program are highly sought after by research pharmaceutical companies, academia, research institutes, and regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA).
