Applicant Requirements
Candidates for admission must typically
have:
- A Bachelor's or Master's in
pharmacy, biochemistry, chemistry, biology, engineering or other
science.
- A high
grade-point average.

A demonstrated proficiency in fundamental scientific areas
including organic and physical chemistry, biochemistry, biology,
and mathematics.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General
Test (general examination) –
required

Overall quality point
average (QPA): Special attention is placed on the grades achieved
in basic science courses relevant to our program; e.g.,
chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and
mathematics.

Research
Experience: Prior research experience and co-authorship in
scientific publications are considered favorably in the admission
process.

Letters of recommendation: Letters from faculty
knowledgeable of the student's ability and capability are
extremely important. In these letters, we seek information about
the student's experience in laboratory research, ability to
communicate, creativity of the individual, and intangibles in the
student's academic
performance.
International Applicants
- The ability to communicate effectively in
English is required. The University requires a minimum TOEFL
score of 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 79 iBT for
international applicants whose first language is not
English.
- All applicants must send
official TOEFL scores to UB. UB's TOEFL institution code is 2925
(St. U. of NY, Center at Buffalo) and our department code is
47.
- Send a
completed UB financial form and bank statement in your
name.

If you are transferring, you must also submit a copy of your
current SEVIS I-20 (showing the INS admission
number).

All international graduate students who have
been awarded graduate assistantships must also demonstrate their
oral English language proficiency by taking the SPEAK (Speaking
Proficiency English Assessment Kit) Test given upon
arrival.
